5 Ways to Support the Author in Your Life
You probably know someone in your Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon who has written a book. The publishing world is rapidly changing and Thought Leaders that traditionally would never be picked up by a Traditional Publishing House are now able to self-publish with a Hybrid Publishing Company. In this scenario, the author pays, through their funds or with crowdfunding, some or all of the costs of publishing and distributing a book. In exchange, they have access to editorial, design, and marketing teams, similar to traditional publishers, and in many cases more control of the creative process and a higher percentage of royalties.
Since the author is in the driver’s seat of making their book a success, they need to reach out to their community to help them spread the word about their new book. That’s where you come in.
How Can I Help The Author in My Life?
I am so glad you asked!
Tell people about the book! Wherever you communicate with people is where you talk about the book. Your Personal and Professional Social Media Accounts, Facebook, LinkedIn, Facebook Groups, Instagram. Your WhatsApp Groups, Your Annual Holiday Card, Your Community Groups, Your Book Clubs. Talk about it just like you would talk about the amazing meal you just had at the new spot in town. Important! Make sure you include the social media handles (@) and hashtags (#) that the Author asks you to use in your posts so they will be easy for the Author to find and engage with and the algorithms will be happy and it will alert them that this content is important/popular and should be shared with more people.
Write a Review! Write a review wherever you talk about books or things you are excited about. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, GoodReads, Everand, Reddit. Posting the same review on different platforms is ok.
Share the Author’s Content! Just push the share button. It’s so easy. You can add a comment but you don’t have to, sharing is enough.
Buy The Book! If you are able to buy the book, then please buy the book. If you are not it’s ok. You can offer to be an Early Reader and see an Advanced Copy of the book and possibly be one of the reviews that makes it into the book. So cool!
Make a Video Review! Video is Queen online. If you feel comfortable and even if you don’t, make a short and sweet review of the book. By doing this, you have created amazing content for the author.
If the author in your life needs help with promoting their book, please share this with them. (See what I did there?) I can be reached here.
